It is with profound sadness that the family of the late Wilson Barnes announce his passing on June 25, 2024 at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte, NL.


Wilson passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Left to mourn with fond and cherished memories are his wife of 56 years, Phyllis; children Janice (Robert), Trevor (Julie), Carolyn (Jamie); grandchildren Matthew (Sunehra), Mark (Kassandra), Lukas, Liam, Benjamin and Meredith; special nephews Carl and Kevin Hillier; half brother Frank Patten (Muriel), Bob Patten (Linda), half sister Susan Boulos (John), as well as a wide circle of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.


Wilson was predeceased by his parents, George and Georgina Barnes, his loving Aunt Florrie and Uncle Richard Hillier.


Wilson was known for his patience, kindness, and unwavering love for his family. His gentle spirit, strong work ethic, and abiding faith were among his most admirable qualities.


He had a passion for woodworking, a love of sports, gardening as well as berry picking. He loved the outdoors and was a devoted walker. Wilson was a loving husband, proud father and grandfather, uncle and friend. A welder by trade, he devoted 30 years to the Iron Ore Company of Canada, and will be remembered for his meticulous work and dedication. While the last 17 months were challenging for him, he never swayed from his faith.


The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the staff at North Haven Manor, Lewisporte; the kindness and compassion shown to Wilson will never be forgotten.


A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 28th at 2pm from St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Lewisporte, NL. Interment will follow at St. Pauls Anglican Church Cemetery.


Donations in Wilson’s name may be made to the St. Paul’s Cemetery fund.
