Nelson E. Troake Obituary

It is with deep sadness that the family of the Late Nelson Troake announce his passing. Nelson passed peacefully away at his home in Little Burnt Bay surrounded by his loving family on Friday, July 25, 2025 at the age of 83 years.

Nelson was predeceased by his devoted wife, Ida (Foss) Troake. Their bond was one of steadfast love and partnership, built on family, hard work, and a shared life by the sea. Though Ida passed in 2014, her presence remained constant in Nelson’s heart and we find comfort in knowing they are reunited at last.

Left to cherish a lifetime of wonderful memories are his loving children: Harvey Troake, Maxine (Ed) Coles, Dorothy (Paul) LeDrew, and Dianne (Todd) Pelley; his treasured grandchildren Holly, Jeremy, Terry, Chelsey, Kyle, and Jared; and his great-grandchildren Daniel and Benjamin.

Nelson also held close a special group he fondly considered his honorary grandchildren Brad, Julia, Grace, Cole, and Kara. He will be fondly remembered by his extend family members and lifelong friends.

Born and raised in outport Newfoundland, Nelson spent his life working on the waters of Notre Dame Bay and Labrador. The sea was in Nelson’s blood and he enjoyed his life to the fullest.

He and Ida raised their family in Little Burnt Bay and spent summers on Black Island, where the rhythms of the land and sea shaped their lives. Nelson’s work ethic was second to none, and his sheds and fishing stage—each one carefully packed with tools, materials, and memories—stood as a tribute to a life well lived.

In addition to his wife, he was also predeceased by his parents Fred and Lillian; sisters Carrie Blake and Lydia Wheaton; brothers Claude, Tom and Harold Barnes; brothers-in-law Jim and Albert Foss and sister-in-law Alverta Foss.
