Baxter Tom Atkinson Obituary

Baxter Tom Atkinson, born on September 21, 1933, in Embree, was called home to be with the Lord on August 3, 2025. Tom, as most people knew him, was well respected by every person who had the privilege to meet him and loved by those fortunate enough to be in his life. His journey on this earth was one marked by love, compassion, laughter, and unwavering faith in God.

The love of family was unmatched. His compassion knew no bounds. His humour and stories made everyone laugh and was never at the expense of anyone else. His devotion as a husband should serve as an example others hope to follow. His deep-rooted faith in Jesus and his unwavering commitment to demonstrating true love and selfless kindness is his legacy.

His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends and all whose lives were touched by him. We ask that you remember Tom not in the last days of his life but for the way he lived his life. Even as he laid in a hospice bed Tom was more concerned that those around him were comfortable and going to be ok.

Those who knew Tom will remember him as a great man. He has made a lasting impact. Although Tom will no longer grace our lives our sincere hope is that his spirit will continue to inspire and uplift all of us. May the memory of how he lived his life guide others and provide everyone with an exceptional role model of compassion and love. As you continue to worship Jesus in your new home, Tom, Your light will forever shine brightly in our hearts.

Tom is survived by his loving children Donna (Dennis), Gary (Bonnie), Sandra (Gary), and Ted (Beryl). He leaves behind his sister Ella (Larry) and brothers Roy (Vera), Enurchas (Nellie)and son-in-law Junior. He will also be greatly missed by his lifelong friend Jim Hoddinott.

Tom is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren: Renee, Adriane, Steven, Julie, Christine, Brandon, Deanna, Jeremy, Jamie and Mason. His numerous great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren will also cherish the memory of poppy, who always gave love freely.

He is predeceased by his parents Leo and Myrtle, first wife Dorothy, second wife Ruby and daughter Kathy, as well as siblings Phyllis, Stewart and Merle.

Resting at Families Funeral Home in Lewisporte with visitation to take place on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm.
