Edmund Archibald Hodder Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edmund Archibald Hodder, who died peacefully on December 3, 2025, at North Haven Manor, at the age of 91.

Edmund was a thoughtful, kind and loving person. He was a quiet man in many ways but still came up with the funniest dry jokes at unexpected times.

In his earlier years, he loved hunting, berry picking, and being on the water whenever he had the chance. As time passed and in his later years, he enjoyed wood crafting and made lots of interesting wooden displays which we now cherish. He loved puzzles and playing games on his notebook.

Edmund was certainly a devoted husband who absolutely adored his wife, Grace, to whom he was married for over 69 years. He spent his last six weeks at North Haven Manor with Grace, which he loved. In his first few weeks there, they sat together in the lounge, and he held and kissed her hand. Edmund was also a great father and provider who showed and exemplified love, patience and care for his children.

Edmund came from a family of five children. His older brothers, Harold and Frank, have passed as well as one of his sisters, Effie Benning. The only surviving sibling is his sister, Annie Wheaton.

Edmund leaves behind his beautiful wife, Grace Hodder and three surviving children (and their partners) - Randy Hodder (Christine), Mervin Hodder (Angela) and Glenda Hodder (Mark). His oldest son Alvin Hodder (Jane) sadly passed earlier this year.

Edmund also leaves behind his five grandchildren, Walter Hodder (Sandy), Barbara Painchaud (Chris), Lori Hodder (Brian), Amanda Hodder, and Mervin Junior Hodder (Natasha), and his great grandchildren.

Special thanks are extended to staff at Kingsway Living, Lewisporte, who showed utmost love, care and kindness (beyond the call of duty) to Edmund until his lack of eating and the resulting impact on his body required a higher level of care. At that stage, he required nursing care at North Haven Manor. The staff there also showed much care and kindness, and for that we are most grateful.

The family are so appreciative of the many acts of kindness shown to Edmund, a loving husband, a beautiful dad, and a wonderful Poppy!

Edmund lived a happy and good life with achievements to be proud of. He is now resting peacefully in heaven hugging his son, Alvin, who recently passed. He was a beautiful man who is loved and cared for deeply by those he’s left behind. We will sorely miss him.

Edmund will be resting at the Stoneville Pentecostal Tabernacle on Sunday from 2:00 to 4:00pm and 7:00 to 9:00pm. His funeral service will take place on Monday, December 8th, at 1:00 pm. Interment will follow at the Stoneville Pentecostal Cemetery.

Donations may be made in his memory to the Pentecostal Church Building Fund in Stoneville. You may view the service live online by visiting the Stoneville Pentecostal Tabernacle Facebook Page.
