Obituary of Sandy Frank Foss
Please share a memory of Sandy to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
With heavy hearts, and loving memories the family announces the passing of beloved husband, and devoted father, grandfather, and great-grandfather Sandy Frank Foss.
Sandy was born on August 31st, 1930 at Salt Pond son of the late: Joseph and Maude Foss. Family was always important to him. As a young teenager he lost his mom and had to drop out of school to help support his family. Along with his brothers he worked in the family Sawmill.
He met the love of his life, Glowena, in 1948 and they married a couple of years later. This love lasted for 71 years. Together they raised a family of four daughters, Viola, Shirley, Cindy, and Shelley. Soon after the birth of his first daughter he gave his heart to the Lord. From that point he raised his children with a Godly influence, teaching by word and example.
These Christian values spilled over into his work life and interactions with others. He possessed an amazing work ethic which he demonstrated first in the lumber woods as a cookee.
From there he moved on to work in the Cabot Bakery in Grand-Falls, and then the Notre Dame Bakery in Lewisporte. He enjoyed it all but his most enjoyable job was working as a janitor at Lewisporte Elementary School. He adored children and the children adored him. This showed through in the cards they made for him when he was sick and memories that pop up even to this day from former students.
Since retirement he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great- grandchildren making cherished memories that will live on forever. He enjoyed spending time in the woods providing fire wood, hunting and fishing, and times on his quad. These activities continued into his late 80’s when a devastating stroke limited his abilities.
In addition to his parents he was predeceased by his parents-in-law George and Lucy Bursey, infant brother Bobby, siblings Winnie, Woodrow, Everett, Bert, Joyce, and Harold, infant son Tony Roy, and beloved grandson Justin. What beautiful reunions there must have been in Heaven!
Left to mourn with beautiful memories are his loving wife, Glowena, four daughters Viola (Whyman) Hill, Shirley (Welmore) Randell, Cindy (Roy) Foss, and Shelley (Dale) Keefe. Also left to mourn are grandchildren Jamie, Cordell, Crystal-Lynn, Ashley, Jordan, Christopher, and Sarah, along with great-grandchildren Ethan, Megan, Brooke, Kyle, Nathan, Lucas, Jackson, Benjamin, Reese, Grayson, Bentley, Aiden, and Malcolm.
The family would like to extend thanks for the wonderful care given by his home care workers, the medical unit at Gander Hospital, and the Palliative Care Unit at North Haven Manor.
Visitation will take place on Sunday, from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Glad Tidings Tabernacle in Embree. Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 13th 2021 at 2pm. ( please have your vaccine passport to abide by government requirements and regulations)
