Obituary of Dorothy Marie Jennings (nee Mews)

It is with heavy hearts and profound sadness that the family of Dorothy Jennings announce her passing at James Paton Memorial Hospital (Gander, NL) on January 24, 2024 at age 67. She leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and cherished memories that will forever live on in the hearts of everyone who knew her. Dorothy was predeceased by her father, Augustus Mews and Garland Quinlan (father of Barbara and Garland). Left to mourn are her mother Nora, children, Barbara (Shane), Garland (Jennifer), grandchildren, Charlotte (Jonathan), Carmen and Colton. She also leaves to mourn husband Lorne, brothers Cyril (Iona), Carl (Verley) and Harrison (Melinda) as well as many nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. As a daughter, Dorothy was a source of strength and inspiration. Her love and support knew no bounds, and her caring nature provided a foundation of comfort that will be deeply missed. As a mother, Dorothy was the epitome of selflessness. Her guidance and wisdom have shaped the lives of her children, instilling in them the values of resilience and kindness. As a grandmother, Dorothy showered her grandchildren with deep love and admiration. She will forever be remembered as an inspiring woman who loved her family more than anything. Dorothy was also a treasured friend to many. She made connections over the years through baking and sewing/quilting which created a circle of love that extended well beyond her family. Though we mourn the loss of Dorothy, we also celebrate the beautiful life she lived and the profound impact she had on those fortunate enough to know her. May her spirit continue to shine brightly in our hearts, and may we find solace in the love and memories she leaves behind. Visitation will take place on Thursday, January 25, 2024 from 7:00-9:00 pm at Beacon Pentecostal Tabernacle (Birchy Bay). Funeral service will be held on Friday, January 26, 2024 at 1:00 pm from Beacon Pentecostal Tabernacle with interment to follow at the Pentecostal Cemetery in Birchy Bay. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Daffodil Place – a place that became very dear to Dorothy’s heart during her cancer journey. May she rest in peace, and may her memory be a blessing to us all.
