Aubrey Garfield Burt of Embree, NL, passed peacefully from this life on Wednesday, March 5, 2014 aged 80 years, from the North Haven Manor surrounded by his loving family. He was predeceased by his parents, Adolphus and Lucy Burt; brothers, Adolphus, Harvey, Hedley, Oliver, and Arthur; sisters, Flora, Minnie Young, and Jessie Wheeler. Aubrey is survived by his loving wife, Margaret Rose Burt; sons, Rev. Lindsey (Bonnie) Burt of Saint John, NB; Terry (Darlene) Burt of Grenfell Heights, Grandfalls-Windsor; daughters, Diane (Keith) Foss of Embree, and Dannette (Pierce) Adams of Bonnyville, Alberta; sister, Marie Gidge of Fair Banks; grandchildren, Jordon Burt, Jared Burt, Patricia Burt, Marlaina (Dave) Mercer, Brady Foss, Todd (Nikki) Pelley, and Mark Pelley; great-grandchildren, Dylan Mercer and Grayson Pelley. Aubrey was born in Virgin Arm on August 9, 1933, son of the late Adolphus and Lucy (Hillier) Burt. In his early years, Aubrey was employed as a lumberjack, which was a job he loved to do. He often talked about, and would have gone back to, if he had his way...even after retiring to North Haven Manor. He was also employed for a short period of time with MacNamara Construction as a dump truck driver pulling stone, gravel, and at times explosives, during road construction on New World Island. Later, he was employed as a Carpenter with Sea Board Construction, and then with E.W. Adams & Sons up to the time of his retirement. Visitation will take place from Families First Funeral Home, 9 Forward Drive, Lewisporte on Thursday from 6-8pm, and Friday 2-4pm and 6-8pm. Funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11am from the Glad Tidings Tabernacle in Embree, with interment to take place at the Community Cemetery in Embree. For those who wish, donations in Aubrey’s memory may be made to the charity of your choice. The family greatly appreciates any donations that you make.
