A true pastor’s heart. There are so many ways to describe Ross. This one seems most fitting. Ross was a true pastor, mentor and friend. Thankful you were able to put pen to paper and write Thundering Silence, letting your guard down and showing us that even great pastors hurt. Thank you for being vulnerable and exposing your life for all to see. It gave us all permission to reveal our brokenness and begin our own journeys to healing. Enjoy your many moments now with Jim, Sadie and other loved ones as you reap your heavenly reward.
Now we are free. I will see you again. But not yet, not yet…

Hazel and family; words cannot begin to recognize your feelings of grief at this juncture of your life. Ross was a unique person, admired by all who knew him well. Our personal friendship with him and you are both cherished and very memorial. We laughed together, worked together during our time at Dartmouth and found comfort in our mutual friendship. His devotion to study and written or spoken communication was testament to his unique ability. You as family will miss his immediate presence but those of us who knew him from a distance will also miss a humerious comment that gave us a lift from the mundane.
God bless and comfort you during this valley experience.

We are so sorry to hear of Ross’s passing.
I remember as a teenager when you guys would come home for a visit. I was just starting to date Dona and Ross would always give me his car (Buick) so I could take her on a special date. That’s over 40 years ago and I still remember Ross giving me the keys with a smile on his face and a wink of his eye. We also look back many times to the night in Baie Verte when you and Ross, Howard and Josephine and Dona’s parents came for lunch. Lets just say we laughed so much we cried at Ross blaming poor Hazel for the fragrance in the air.
1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 Brothers and sisters, we do not want you to be uninformed about those who sleep in death, so that you do not grieve like the rest of mankind, who have no hope. For we believe that Jesus died and rose again, and so we believe that God will bring with Jesus those who have fallen asleep in Him.
There it is Hazel ---- THERE IS HOPE!!! Death is not the end!!! We will see Ross again!!
Although we cannot be with you today we are praying for you as you travel this dark valley.
Cherish the memories you have made through the years.
All our love Gary & Dona

To Hazel, your children, and extended family members,
Please know that we are praying for you, and remembering the times we spent with you when we were all much younger, in St. John's. You were really good friends to us, and we shared many happy times visiting each other, going to Bowering Park, taking pictures, laughing at our experiences, and tasting each other's recipes. They were precious times, two young married couples, with 'not a care in the world', as they say.
Much time has passed since then, but God has always been with us, no matter where we were. And at this time of earthly separation, do not mourn too heavily, but know with assurance that very soon we shall all be together again, in the beautiful presence of the Lord.

We are saddened to hear of Ross’s passing. He was so down to earth in life and in ministry. We were so pleased to see him just a couple or three years ago in Lakeland Florida at one of our picnics. He still had that unforgettable twinkle in his eye and heart warming smile.
His pursuit of excellence in study and ministry made a great contribution in the lives of so many. It is really hard to fathom his departure from this life. But that is not the end. He had grasped the gospel that offers the Bleesed Hope of the Church. God’s Promises are true. And, He will be with you in your journey as you find a new normal in Grace.

We have many pleasant memories of Rev. Dr. Ross ministry time here in Lab City. His sermons were always interesting, challenging and sometimes provocative and always had catchy titles. Dear Hazel, Carla, Justin and Siblings and Extended Family,
We were deeply saddened to hear the news of Ross’s passing. I first met Ross and Hazel in High School in Lewisporte, NL. We graduated from the same class in 1964. Ross was recognized by the principal and teaching staff as, “The Man with the Golden Voice.” Our paths went different ways but reconnected again when Ross went to Bible School and we lived in Markham, ON. I remember the many times that Ross and family would show up at our door unannounced and was coming for the weekend. The one time they came we decided to go on a camping trip together. It was then I realized that camping was not one of Ross’s pleasures in life. He went to a library in a town near by while the rest of us went to the beach.
Ross was always fun to be with. He especially liked to have a game of cards, particularly Rook. He was determined to win and usually did.
He excelled in preaching the Word of God and teaching it’s truths. He would bring the Old Testament stories to life and relevant to our lives today.
Ross was unique in many ways and everyone loved him. I will miss him dearly.
The Golden Voice has been silenced now but in his eternal home he is singing and rejoicing with the angels. We are left with the many wonderful memories that we can reminisce daily.
We pray that God’s abiding comfort and sustaining strength be with you as you journey the days ahead.

Dear Hazel,Carla,Justin and family,I just want to let you know my heart and thoughts are with you at this bittersweet time.Bitter because we literally ache for presence of our loved one who is no longer physically with us and we just want to see them, talk with them, kiss and hug and hold them and have them back with us.Sweet because our faith tells us that they are gone on to a much better place.A place that knows no suffering,no tears,no pain, but only reassures us of love and joy and happiness that we can barely comprehend.Im not sure Hazel if you remember us but something tells me you do.We were a part of the congregation at Evangel Pentecostal in Cole Harbour when you and your husband ministered there.Marilyn, myself and Cathy (sisters )Well I know that you have met so many people in your ministry, but I'm sure some of them stick out in your memory.Marilyn was taking from us in an instant. No warning,no time for goodbyes. She was killed in a horrific car accident on the #7 highway on a beautiful Friday afternoon in August.Well,as much as I know she's gone on to a better place, the human part of me misses my sister and best friend always. The heartache does lift over time and as the saying goes, life does go on.Which at the time just doesn't seem right.I know I rambled on but I just wanted to share that with you and let you know you're in my heart and thoughts.May God sustain you and comfort you in this difficult time.Love and hugs,Irene Jackson

Hazel, Justin, Carla and Family,
Our hearts, thoughts and prayers have been with you since we heard the news of Ross's passing yesterday. We are deeply saddened by the loss of your husband, Dad and Granddad, and our former pastor, neighbor and friend. We have wonderful memories of many meals, night lunches and laughs together. I remember one night they came for tea. Knowing Ross expected dessert with his tea, I had made a banana bread. When I laid it on the table he said, "Banana bread? That's not dessert! Why would you think banana bread is dessert?" A couple of years after he moved to Lab. City, our family were in ON for a holiday, driving on the 401,when a blue Crown Victoria pulled up beside us, cut in front of us, and pulled over to the shoulder. We recognized the car and pulled over for a little visit! Ross said he was glad he'd noticed us because everyone else in the car was asleep and he had considered napping along with them! We had our last visit in the summer of 2016. Even though Parkinson's Disease had robbed him of some mobility, his sense of humor was as keen as ever. We had no idea that was to be our last visit. The next time we get together Ross won't be driving a Crown Vic or leaning on a cane. He will be walking on streets of gold, healthy and whole, humorous still, I'm sure. I can picture him falling on his knees, hands raised praising his Savior as he did in the aisle of the church in Point Leamington one Sunday night following his delivery of a powerful sermon about the majesty of our risen Savior and our heavenly home. Your hearts are broken and life will never again be the same. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted. Lean on him, allow him to comfort your hearts, and look ahead with hope and anticipation to the day when you will be together again in a better place. Love to you all.

To the Perry Family:
Sorry to hear of Ross’s passing. He was a great friend to Elliott and I. He was a great encourager to our daughter Telva and son in law Phil.
We remember meeting him in Windsor, Ontario many times. We were there when he stepped down because of illness!
I know that he is now in Heaven with Jesus! He has heard the words “well done good and faithful servant”. He is there with Elliott and all his other friends and family!
Hazel, I know the heartache that will follow! Please accept our thoughts and prayers. I have just been through the grief for a year. However, God is always with you. Love. Blanche Baker

Pastor Perry was my first pastor (I was saved in Labrador City in 1984). He was a great preacher and offered me exceptional counselling when I was a baby Christian. Pastor Perry's words of wisdom lead me to look for and find the love of my life Donna.
To his entire family: "blessed are those who mourn for they shall be comforted".
To Mrs. Perry, Carla, and Justin, who we knew well all those years ago in Lab City, thank you for sharing Pastor Perry with us. I look forward to seeing him again.

We were shocked to learn of Ross’s passing. It was such a joy to reconnect when You and Ross were in Fredericton. It was so refreshing to laugh together. Now we weep together. Ross was a mentor to me in my early years of ministry. He was admired and respected by many for his clever mind and wit.
May the Holy Spirit sustain you and the children at this very difficult time. Looking to the time when we can all rejoice together in the presence of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
Love and Prayers

... laughter and tears thinking of so many events over 30 years. Standing in line at Wendy’s and Ross saying “Hazel! What do I like?” As smart as he was he always depended on you, Hazel. Hold on to those funny memories. But the balance to that was his wisdom and his mentorship of so many young people. I’m sorry his life ended the way it has. My love to you all, Hazel, Carla and Justin.

Pastor Ross my shinning light for so many years. Thank you for loving me and teaching me through so many bible studies. It was an honor to have you as my Pastor. You always prayed for me and I remember the day you saw me at Tecumseh Mall and I was doing very well an you stopped me and said I am praying for Sue Come home. i came back that year. Then you baptized me in 1997. Then we realized that not only did we have the Lord together we had Jesus Loves Me as our favorite song. you are home now rejoicing with Jesus. Well done my good and faithful servant. Love you. Prayers for the family and so many brothers and sisters are sad, however rejoicing knowing it is Till We meet again.

We learned of Ross's passing while attending the funeral of his friend, Harold Corbett. There was a picture of Harold, Ross and Dad that was taken when they visited you last year. It was good to see the three of them together again, Dad talked often about their lunches they would have often and the discussions they would have. Dad always said he was the dumb one (not true!), I said to Angie, after we heard, I can see the two of them, standing in a large crowd waiting at the Pearly Gates and they turn, make eye contact and, in unison, "Hey, what are you doing here?". I can only imagine the conversations they are having now. You are in our thoughts and prayers and we wish we could be there with you. Ross was a quiet giant who had the love and respect of so many. May God bless you over the next days, weeks and months.

Hazel, and family:
We are saddened by this unexpected news. Ross was my friend from my earliest memories in childhood. We spent many hours together in summertime when we visited our grandparents who lived just across the road. My grandfather David Clarke was his dad’s best friend. Ross and I shared many things such as a common interest in theology, serious reading, and writing. I am unashamed to say I loved Ross Perry. Talking with him cleared my mind and encouraged my heart. But, laughing with him hurt my ribs. May perpetual peace shine upon him. He will be missed greatly. Christine and I send our love. May the Lord grant you comfort and peace.
