Obituary of Stella Marie ( Rideout) Gosse

Born on November 15th, 1929 Stella-Marie was the daughter of George and Edith Rideout of Middle Arm. She passed on December 21st, 2023 at the Dr. Y. K. Jeon Health Centre with her daughter Eileen and son-in-law Gerald by her side. She leaves behind three children: Earl Gosse, Sidney Gosse, and Eileen Chatman (Gerald) as well as seven grandchildren: Michael Gosse, Richard Gosse, Sherri Holmes (Jody), Sarah Wheeler (Ryan), Kristen Scott (Nathan), Shane Chatman and Chelsea Forsyth (Eric). She also had thirteen great-grandchildren: Sydney, Carrie, Hayley, D. J., Jaylie, Rebecca, Kaidence, Ryleigh, Brynn, Bella, Jameson, Kallie and Kodie. Stella has two surviving sisters, Maud Noble (Les) and Nita Mitchell (Gus). She is pre-deceased by her parents and her sister Effie Myatt (Art), her brother Fred Rideout (Yvonne); brothers-in-law Art Myatt, Les Noble and Gus Mitchell and daughter-in-law Dallas Gosse (Sidney). She spent her lifetime studying, teaching and caring for her family. The highest level of education she received was a Masters of Education with a focus on administration. Once her children were grown she lived in several communities within the province where she served as a vice-principal, district curriculum specialist and principal within the K to 12 school system. The longest places she resided were Middle Arm, Indian Cove, Lewisporte, Musgrave Harbour and Gander. . Her last two years were spent at Nightingale Manor in Gander. Always an independent lady, dementia began to overtake the last few years of her life but it could not diminish her spark until the very end. She always loved a garden but not cut flowers; she hated to see them die. If you wish to honor her you can plant something in your own garden come spring and think of her when you see it grow or you can donate to a children’s charity of choice. Visitation will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 27th between 7p.m. to 9p.m. at Families Funeral Home in Lewisporte with a funeral service on Thursday at 1:00 p.m. from the funeral home . Interment will be at St. Matthew’s United Church Cemetery, Lewisporte.
