Patti, Deon, Preston,Logan and all the Canning family,
I was so very saddened to learn my old friend from my childhood had passed. Lew was older than me, but we were best friends growing up in Birchy Bay, where he taught me how to fish Jumpers Pond while sharing lots of laughs. He was in his glee, teaching me how to make a good trouting pole by finding a nice spruce tree and planing it down. He even taught me how to shoot a gun using his own 22!
When Judy and I were first married, he gave us a beaver which I had stuffed and he lived in our family room for years, always making a good conversation piece!
Lew my friend, heaven is sounding sweeter all the time and knowing you will be there will make it easier for me to go home.
Sending much love to all your family today.
Pleman and Judy

Robbie & Patti, Our families thoughts & prayers are with you today. Gaye & I I have many memories of your dad that we’ve been sharing over the last few days. Uncle Lew, as we affectionally called him, would drop in to Dad’s every now and then for a good long yarn. When Lew dropped in it was for at least a couple of hours & it wasn’t long before the kettle would be boiling and they’d sit down for a mug of tea. in recent years he would call over many times and tell dad to bring Andrew and Rebecca over to go fishing in the brook. They learned to love their time over at Lew & Patsy’s. We all have fond memories of uncle Lew.
Patsy, my heart aches for you today as you lay your love to rest. I know that you’ve been a part of Lew’s visits to mom and dad’s in recent years too & they have enjoyed getting to know you.
Many of us are feeling the sadness of your loss but how much greater it must be for you, his loved ones, as you lay your husband and dad to rest today. Know that many of us are thinking of you and will be praying for you in the days to come. Hold your precious memories close until you meet again.
Love, Wilb, Daisy, Gail & Gaye

The last time that I was home I visited Lew.
He showed me his raspberry farm and the freezers where he kept the berries.
He took pride in that and it was obvious by the way he talked about it.
I still remember fly fishing with him on Jumpers brook.
Be safe in the presence of God my friend.

In 2018 I visited nfld with my son, Nick. Nick was 16 and we spent a few hours with uncle Lew, Nick was so impressed by the house, the garden and uncle Lew told him how he can fish right outside the house and catch dinner. nick thought Uncle Lew was the “coolest”!
Since then Nick has developed a passion for the outdoors, hiking, camping, portaging the Canoe and working with wood, building things. Just a few hours with Uncle Lew and Nick will never forget him and well neither will I. We always said Nick is a Canning!
Sending much love and prayers to our family especially to Pattie, Robbie and Patsy, mom and my Aunts and Uncles.
