Obituary of Llewellyn Alvin Canning

It is with heavy hearts and cherished memories that the family announce the passing of Llewellyn at the age of 79 years. Llewellyn Alvin Canning of Birchy Bay entered the presence of his Lord and Savior with his loved ones by his side on December 1, 2024, at James Paton Memorial Hospital. He was born to the late: James and Lenora Canning on August 21, 1945, in Birchy Bay. Llewellyn was a devoted dad and outdoorsman. He had a lifelong passion for hunting, fishing, logging, gardening, berry picking and he loved snowmobiling and enjoyed grooming the trails so everyone could have a good ride. Llew loved being in the woods, at his cabin, and out on his riverboat. He found so much peace and joy doing these things. Llew worked in the woods as a logger and later worked on the Campbellton river until his retirement. He leaves to mourn his loving wife Patsy; his children, Robbie (Carolyn), Patti (Deon) Pope; stepchildren: Crystal, Leo, Amanda (Robert) Rideout, Daniel (Tonya) Jenkins; grandchildren: Preston, Logan, Tyler, Paige, Grayson along with his step grandchildren: Cassidy, Catherine, Cheyenne, Ciara, Daniel and Celine. He will be deeply missed by his siblings Harvey (Gertie), Rebecca Harnett, Douglas (Grace), Myrtle Elliott (Stan Parsons), Wilson (Viola), Montrose (Pauline), Betty Hodder (Ray Ginn), Madeline (Wilfred) Foss, Marilyn (Ross) Hodder, Iona (Cyril) Mews, Chris (Linda) and Maxwell (Abby). In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his sister Doris Osmond and infant son. Visitation will take place from the Salvation Army Citadel in Birchy Bay on Wednesday from 2-4pm and 7-9pm. Funeral service will be held on Thursday, December 5th at 1pm with interment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery. Donations may be made in his memory to the Salvation Army Cemetery Fund.
